What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is derived from the Greek words homeo, meaning similar, and pathos, meaning suffering. The principle of Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars. It was Dr. Samuel Hahnemann who discovered the benefits of Homeopathy. He pioneered the dilution process still used by all Homeopathic formulators. Today, after 200 years of Homeopathic drug proving, there is a basis or "pathogenesis" that each formulator and homeopathic doctor follows when diagnosing and treating patients.

Are Homeopathic products regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration?
Yes, homeopathic remedies are prepared according to the guidelines of the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS), which is recognized as official by the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The manufacture of homeopathic remedies is regulated similarly to nonprescription, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does require that homeopathic remedies meet certain legal standards for quality, strength, and purity. Only products for self-limiting conditions recognizable by consumers (minor health problems like a cold or headache that go away on their own) can be sold without a prescription.

To be accepted as a homeopathic drug by the FDA, product ingredients must be identified in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS).

For more information, please visit The Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States or The U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Will Similasan products cause dependence or "the rebound effect?"
While some conventional OTC medicines (eye drops and nasal decongestants) clear up, or "mask," symptoms temporarily, the same symptoms often come back with shorter periods of relief in between doses. For this reason, many people develop a dependency on OTC eye drops and nasal decongestants. Similasan's Original Swiss Formulas are intended to stimulate the body's natural ability to provide relief for symptoms of common ailments. There is no worry of toxic build-up or the rebound effect with any Similasan product.
